One of the most common questions we get at Berger Home Solutions is: "What size dumpster do I need?" It's a great question — and getting the answer right can save you money, time, and a second trip. This guide breaks it down so you can make the right call for your project in Southwest Florida.
Why Dumpster Size Matters
Renting a dumpster that's too small means you'll run out of room before the job is done — and you'll either need to rent another one or make costly trips to the landfill yourself. Renting one that's too large means you're paying for capacity you don't need. Getting the right size from the start keeps your project on budget and on schedule.
Our 14-Yard Dumpster — What It Fits
Berger Home Solutions currently offers our 14-yard roll-off dumpster — one of the most popular sizes for Southwest Florida homeowners and contractors. Here's what you need to know:
| Project Type | 14-Yard Fit? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel | ✓ Perfect | Handles cabinets, tile, drywall, fixtures |
| Single Room Cleanout | ✓ Perfect | Furniture, junk, boxes — fits easily |
| Roof Tear-Off (small) | ✓ Good | Shingles are heavy — watch weight limit |
| Yard Cleanup | ✓ Perfect | Branches, shrubs, landscaping debris |
| Estate Cleanout | ✓ Good | May need a second load for large homes |
| Whole-Home Renovation | ~ Multiple loads | Call us to discuss scheduling |
| Construction Debris | ✓ Good | Wood, drywall, framing — great fit |
When in doubt, go with our 14-yard. It fits in most standard driveways, handles the majority of residential and light commercial jobs, and is the most cost-effective option for Southwest Florida projects. Still unsure? Call us and we'll help you figure it out.
Weight Limits — Don't Overlook This
Every dumpster has both a volume limit (how full it looks) and a weight limit (how heavy the contents are). Our 14-yard dumpster includes 1 ton (2,000 lbs) of debris in the base rental price, with a maximum capacity of 10,000 lbs.
Heavy materials like concrete, dirt, bricks, and roofing shingles can hit weight limits fast — even if the dumpster isn't visually full. If your project involves heavy materials, give us a call before booking so we can help you plan accordingly.
What About Overfilling?
This is important — do not fill your dumpster above the top rim. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be safely covered or transported. If a dumpster is overfilled at pickup, a $100 overfill fee applies and you may need to remove some debris before we can haul it away. Always leave a few inches of clearance at the top.
Questions to Ask Before You Book
- What type of debris am I disposing of? (light junk vs. heavy materials)
- How much space do I have for delivery? (Need ~60 ft of clearance)
- How long will my project take? (3, 7, or 14-day rental?)
- Is the debris going all at once or over multiple days?
