Loading junk removal debris — what can go in a dumpster Florida

What Can and Can't Go in a Dumpster in Southwest Florida

Before you start loading up a roll-off dumpster, it's important to know what's allowed and what isn't. Why Prohibited Items Matter

Prohibited items aren't arbitrary rules — they exist for real environmental and safety reasons. Hazardous materials like paint, solvents, motor oil, and batteries can contaminate soil and groundwater when disposed of improperly. Here in Southwest Florida, protecting our waterways, Charlotte Harbor, and the Gulf Coast is something we take seriously.

Beyond the environment, certain materials can also create fire hazards, damage our equipment, or cause landfill facilities to reject entire loads — which results in additional fees passed back to you.

Special Items — Call Us First

Some items fall into a gray area. Here's how we handle the most common ones:

Tires

Tires are generally not accepted in standard roll-off dumpsters, but we can make arrangements for a small additional fee of $15 per tire. Call us before adding tires to your load.

Mattresses

Mattresses are bulky and some facilities charge extra for them. We handle mattresses for an additional fee of $50 per mattress. Let us know upfront.

Heavy Materials — Concrete, Brick, Dirt

These are accepted but be aware of weight limits. Our 14-yard dumpster includes 1 ton (2,000 lbs) — and dense materials like concrete can hit that limit fast even if the dumpster looks half-empty. Extra tonnage is billed at $75 per ton over the limit.

Appliances

Standard appliances like washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens are accepted. However, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units that contain refrigerant (Freon) are NOT accepted and must be disposed of through a certified appliance recycler.

The Golden Rule

If you're not sure whether something can go in the dumpster — call us before you load it. It's much easier to handle questionable items before the dumpster is full than after. We'd rather answer a quick question than deal with a rejected load. Call (941) 626-5953.

The Overfill Rule — Critical to Know

Regardless of what's in your dumpster, do not fill it above the top rim. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be safely covered or transported on Florida roads. An overfill fee of $100 applies to any dumpster that cannot be safely tarped at pickup. When in doubt, leave a few inches of clearance at the top.
